Focusing On The Positives Of COVID-19

COVID-19
FOCUSING ON THE POSITIVES OF COVID-19
Why having a different perspective is crucial to maintain a positive
mindset amidst the current pandemic

Whilst the current pandemic has been difficult, there are various undeniable benefits we can take advantage of. We have been blessed with a very rare thing; free time and space.

Perhaps not everyone has stopped working, depending on your own circumstances. Nonetheless, businesses cannot function the same way they did before for many people, and as a result, we are spending more time on our own.

Regardless of whether or not the pandemic has affected you personally, there has never been a better time to focus on what you have gained from it.

So let’s now focus on turning these changes into positive improvements using some examples below:

COVID’s Negative effect: Having to isolate from other people and social distancing.

The positive outcome: You are able to spend time with the people you care about.

I have been able to spend more time with family and close friends as a result of
the pandemic, and started a job which provides me with the flexibility to work from home.

COVID’s Negative effect: Job losses and reduced working hours

The positive outcome: More enterprising, resourceful and creative endeavours

Many of us have been seeking new employment in a ‘work from home’ capacity, some of which have flexible working hours, as a result of this pandemic.

I have joined the business bombshells recently, as a part time role whilst completing rural work in Australia. (See the link at the end of this blog for further information)

Even if you are not happy in your current job, there are more online opportunities available to you than ever before, and it is also now cheaper to study due to various free offers on various courses.

To those of you who lost your job during the pandemic, I can relate with you. I also lost my job and I didn’t like the lack of financial stability. However, I coped with this setback by focusing on the positive aspects of the pandemic, and my positivity directed me to a great career in skincare and rural work.

I was also able to spend more time with my sister whilst she worked from home, and I appreciated the peaceful tranquillity when exploring the coast and city areas.
Think for a second. What are you thankful for and what are you wanting
to do in life?
There is no reason why you cannot make it happen!

COVID’s Negative effect: Less eating and drinking at restaurants, cafes and bars due to enforced restrictions

The positive outcome: Having more free time than before, the opportunity to spend longer in the kitchen cooking nutritious food for yourself and your family, thus saving you money.

I have cooked more often and widened my repertoire of cuisine to include Asian, Australian and Brazilian dishes. I find cooking mindful and now prefer eating in rather than eating out the majority of the time.

COVID’s Negative effect: Early on, you could only leave the house for exercise due to enforced restrictions.

The positive outcome: This was great for getting people out of the house for exercise purposes.

COVID has led to a beneficial fitness movement nationwide. There is no doubt that exercise was initially used as an ‘excuse’ to leave the house at first. However, this has enabled us to experience the health benefits of a faster metabolism, an addictive release of endorphins and a sense of achievement enhancing physical and mental well-being.

One activity I have taken up more is yoga. It’s an exercise you can do in your own home and makes me feel energised and relaxed. I have been attending online yoga classes run by a lovely English girl called Olivia Alice, who has given me permission to share her Facebook page.

Now that restrictions have eased, Olivia allows members to sign up online to her sunrise outdoor yoga classes. (See the link below to start practicing yoga)

COVID’s Negative effect: You are constantly reminded by signs and other people to wash your hands thoroughly in regular intervals.

The Positive outcome: Society has become more health conscious and hygienic.

As a result of constant reminders to wash our hands and use sanitiser regularly, our brains are now automatically assisting us to stay as clean as possible.
Whilst it may seem a little tedious, it is only going to help reduce our risk of catching other viruses and infections as well as COVID-19.

3 key points to take away from this temporary setback

  • The time dedicated to preparing great food at home which is more healthy, economical and enjoyable.
  • Being able to work out and exercise from the comfort of your own home. It’s easier to work out at home with no other people where you have your own space, right?
  • Putting your own health first, including personal hygiene, being more mindful and conscientious.

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog and I wish you a lifetime of health
and happiness as together, we will get through this!
