Mind for Life

Karthika Thomas

I am a professional counsellor in training pursuing Master of Counselling at the University of Canberra at Bruce ACT and undergoing rigorous training and practice in several evidence-based interventions and counselling skills. I have previously worked as a volunteering counsellor with NEST orphanage in India, wherein I helped children of varying age groups with a range of behavioural, traumatic and psychosocial issues. I have a background in Psychology and as an intern during my under-graduation studies, I have worked with 3 different mental health-related organizations such as Special school for Children with Mental Retardation, Mental Health and Rehabilitation Centre and Counselling services for Blind and Deaf children. This was a life-changing encounter that gave me invaluable training and experience, particularly in trauma and depression counselling and management.

I am Yoga Instructor certified in Power Yoga and skilled in Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, and Himalayan meditation techniques. I have worked extensively with people belonging to diverse backgrounds. I am also a professional Indian Classical Dancer, trained in the dance forms of Bharatanatyam and Kathak. I started learning dance since the age of 3 and have been performing professionally for about 13 years with over 268+ performances nationally and internationally.

I am a passionate, hard-working, committed, understanding, empathic and an enthusiastic person with a warm and kind persona. I am currently working with using the traditional Himalayan methods of Yoga into my counselling practice and moulding it in a way to help people who experience several mental, emotional and physical health concerns. With the best of both worlds of Yoga and Counselling, I hope to extend my helping hand to the community and assist them in healing holistically.
