Educational Workshops to Fight Against Obesity and Mental Health Issues

Mind for Life (MFL) Profile

We are a new not-for-profit charity organization whose aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of people in our communities, especially those with chronic illness and mental health issues. Established in 2015, our organization’s ethos is based on our motto, “A healthy mind for a healthy body”. Our mission is to raise awareness to those at health risk and provide individual counselling or group therapy sessions with the help from our professional team. We adopt a holistic approach to delivering healthcare services as we believe that no two people suffer in the exact same way.

As mindset is fundamental to addressing the obesity problem, we focus our efforts on cognitive restructuring and emotional resilience through early intervention and education. We provide support to the people who seek help and counselling at our Public Support Group Monthly Meetings around Sydney.

We have been broadcasting morning radio shows to promote education, awareness and prevention of mental and physical health issues on the Triple H community radio, covering the North Shore area every Monday from 10am to 11am. As support from the local community and listeners continue to grow, we have expanded our broadcasting across 5 radio stations around Sydney, covering Parramatta, Blacktown, Penrith, Bondi Beach and other areas. These days we are receiving requests to invite more guest speakers from government bodies and health professionals to speak on our radio shows.

As our charity organization is still in its stages of infancy, we are seeking avenues to increase funding to sustain our ability to give back to the community. One of current efforts is to carry out educational workshops project at local child care centers with the purpose of providing nutrition, coaching, personal trainer coaching, and counselling and advice services to the parents concerning about obesity and related mental illnesses. The objective is that after taking workshops, clients can have a comprehensive understanding of obesity and its related mental illnesses, thus learn to develop a positive mindset and a healthy lifestyle to proactively fight against obesity.

Educational Workshops Project

We plan to run 30 educational workshops around Sydney, where our practitioners from various fields like Psychology, Nutrition, Naturopathy, and Life Coaching will provide free health consultation and treatment. Our target participants will be those from child care centers, after school care primary schools, churches, mother groups, and community centers in the suburbs of Western Sydney, such as Baulkham Hills, Parramatta, Blacktown, Penrith, St Marys, and Richmond. The estimated cost for two practitioners and admin expenses for each workshop will be $300, bringing the total cost of all 30 workshops to $9,000.
